New scholarship established for full-time students

RELEASED: May 19, 2005

DANVILLE, KY—At its spring meeting, the Centre College Board of Trustees approved a new, named scholarship fund. The Edgar N. and Ben Alice Purdom Scholarship was established by their daughter, Peggy Purdom Patterson and her husband, Charles E. Patterson, in memory of her father, Edgar N. Purdom, and in honor of her mother, Ben Alice Purdom. The scholarship will be awarded to worthy students who are enrolled full-time at Centre College.

Centre is currently in the third year of a five-year campaign to raise $120 million. The largest single funding priority of the Campaign for A More Perfect Centre is new endowment for student scholarships, with a funding objective of $35 million.

Peggy Purdom Patterson, a native of Harrodsburg, where her mother continues to reside, is a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky. She is a graduate of Centre and a member of its Board of Trustees. Judge Patterson and her husband, a retired Ashland, Inc. executive, reside in Ashland, Ky.
