Lucky XIII: Creativity abounds in senior art show
RELEASED: May 12, 2005
DANVILLE, KYFor Centre College's graduating art majors, the Senior Art Show this month is the culmination of years of hard work developing their craft and vision.
This year's exhibit is titled "XIII" for two reasons: because a lucky 13 students will have their work on display and because the opening reception takes place on the highly auspicious date of Friday the 13th.
The show runs from Wednesday, May 10 through Commencement Day, Sunday May 22, in the AEGON Gallery in the JVAC (Jones Visual Arts Center) on the Centre campus. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., with special hours on Commencement Sunday, 9 - 5. There will be a public reception for the artists on Friday, May 13, from 4 - 5:30 p.m.
"The Art Program has 13 seniors this year," says Judith Pointer Jia, assistant professor of art. "Each has worked toward creating his or her own cohesive body of work. With a group this large, the work covers a range of media including charcoal, oil paint, collage, hot glass, and ceramic. There is also a wide range of scale in the worksfrom drawings that are 3 feet by 6 feet to porcelain sake bottles measuring 8 inches tall. Subject matter ranges from the human form, both abstracted and realistic, to landscapes, vessels, and abstract sculpture. This exhibit is large and interesting and offers something to catch everyone's eye."
