Two Gentlemen of Verona on stage at Centre RELEASED: Sept. 29, 2005
Centre College drama students are preparing a public production of William Shakespeare's freewheeling comedy Two Gentlemen of Verona. Under the direction of Richard St. Peter, the performances will take place during Family Weekend on Oct. 6 (8:00 p.m.), Oct. 7 (7:00 p.m.), and Oct. 8 (5:00 p.m.) in Weisiger Theatre at the Norton Center for the Arts on campus. The cast includes: Adam Brown '07, David Brown '08, Chad Dike '06, Strother Gaines '06, Dan Kamykowski '07, Erin McGuire '06, Ginger Pennington '06, Sara Watson '06, and Rachel White '06.
Guest Director St. Peter comments, "Anytime you get to play with Shakespeare it's a treat, but particularly with students. Seeing students discover that they can, in fact, handle Shakespeare and watching them get more and more confident as they relax into the text, is always fun. And the students at Centre College are a special group of people." St. Peter is the artistic director of Actors Guild of Lexington, Ky. His directing credits include Stop Kiss, The SantaLand Diaries, Checking In, and All My Sons. He has also directed extensively with Theatre IV's national tours, Virginia Opera's Spectrum Artists-in-Residence program and TheatreVirginia's New Voices for the Stage. He served as associate artistic director of TheatreVirginia (2001-02) and Barksdale Theatre (1999-2001). In 2002, he received a prestigious Princess Grace Foundation Theater Award. St. Peter received an M.F.A. degree in stage directing from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.
