Centre chosen as a Barron's best buy

RELEASED: Oct. 19, 2006

DANVILLE, KY—"[Centre faculty]…are highly rated by students as Renaissance men and women who are well-spoken and intelligent, and not just in their particular fields. Remarks a senior: 'Their degrees and genuine interest in educating students make them not only wonderful teachers but also friends who visit and make house calls!'" states the latest edition of Barron's Best Buys in College Education, a leading publication for college-bound students and their parents.

Centre was one of 247 colleges and universities nationwide chosen to appear in the ninth edition of Best Buys, which pinpoints and highlights institutions where students receive an excellent education at an affordable price.

Colleges are selected to appear in Best Buys based on various criteria, including tuition rates, as well as the results of questionnaires filled out by students and college deans.

Carey Thompson, dean of admission and student financial planning, says the College is pleased to once again be a part of this important guide.

"Centre students and faculty continue to experience a great deal of success inside and outside the classroom," Thompson says. "At the same time, the College makes every effort to ensure their experience is one of the highest value and quality."

Richard Trollinger, vice president for college relations, says of Centre's inclusion in the book, "Once again, Barron's has provided important third-party validation of our claim to offer a superior education in the liberal arts and sciences at a reasonable cost."

Other recent national rankings for Centre include:

In August U.S. News ranked Centre at No. 18 in its "Great Colleges, Great Prices" category and No. 44 among liberal arts colleges nationally (the highest rating of any Kentucky college or university). In the new "Debt Load" category, Centre was No. 21 among liberal arts colleges for the least debt owed on average by 2005 graduates.

The Princeton Review features Centre in its 2006 edition of the annual "Best Colleges" guide. Centre had the highest academic rating of any Kentucky institution. The College was also singled out in the "Best Southeastern Colleges" category and as one of "America's Best Value Colleges."
