The Centre Bookstore–one year later

RELEASED: Oct. 5, 2006

DANVILLE, KY— September marks the first anniversary of the Centre Bookstore’s move to the former Hub building on the corner of Third and Main Streets, and indications are that the move was a good one.

“Business has been great,” said bookstore manager Linda Minteer. “Students don’t seem to mind that we’re a couple of blocks off-campus, and we’re getting more local traffic than we did in our former location.”

“It’s always organized, better than the one before it,” said Carrie Robison, a junior from Greenville, S.C. “Warm, comfortable atmosphere, like a book store should be. A place you don’t mind to go to for books. Plus it’s cool to have books, CDs, etc. by our professors in the mix.”

“Other campus bookstores I’ve been to are impersonal, just a place to buy and sell textbooks,” said Laura Pasley, a freshman from Georgetown, Ky. “But Centre’s is really relaxing, and the Hub Café adjoining the book store just makes it more so.”

While the transition went smoothly, and students seem to like the new location, the past year hasn’t been without its adventures. Maybe the most unusual was on July 12 when a 200-pound goat escaped from the stockyards, ran amok down Main Street and jumped through two of the bookstore’s plate glass windows before being captured by someone from the stockyard.

“Aside from selling books, Centre's bookstore is a great place to buy CDs, DVDs, and lots of other Centre paraphernalia,” said Ben Sheene, a junior from Danville. “It also helps that it’s right next to the Hub Café so you can sit and read while having a delicious drink and snack.”
