ESPN Classic airs episode featuring "Praying Colonels"

RELEASED: Aug. 31, 2006

DANVILLE, KY—In a see-saw voting battle, Centre's 1921 upset of Harvard has shot into first place in an ESPN Online poll of "greatest college football upsets."

ESPN paid tribute to the "Praying Colonels" by featuring the victory over Harvard as part of "Who's No. 1? Biggest College Football Upsets," a show that aired last Monday, Aug. 28 on ESPN Classic. Watch local listings for information on repeat broadcasts.

In the online polling, the "Praying Colonels" came from behind to lead the voting by a wide margin. The 1921 Centre victory over a Crimson team that was undefeated in five years now commands 62.1 percent of the voting. Kansas State's 2003 upset of Oklahoma is now a distant second at 35.2 percent. No other upset has received more than 2 percent of the votes.
