Centre cookbook raises money for student projects

RELEASED: Nov. 30, 2006

DANVILLE, KY—What started with one Centre mom asking another Centre mom for her recipe for pepperoni bread has turned into a fundraiser geared directly toward students. The Centre Parents Association recently compiled Centre Cooks, a cookbook of nearly 400 recipes from parents, faculty and staff, to support projects of the Parents Fund.

Each year, parents select several projects that they wish to support financially—most often projects that have the greatest immediate benefit for students. Past projects include support of the science initiative to create an endowment for equipment needs, furnishings for the central reading lounge in the new library renovation, recreation equipment, a computer automation upgrade for the library, creation of a social studies lab, creation of the Writing Center and the newspaper readership program, which provides national newspapers for students' use.

"What makes this cookbook unique is its focus on Centre students," says Mona Wyatt, director of donor relations and parent programs. "Not only will they benefit from the proceeds, but the recipes are ones that parents have specifically selected as their children's favorites."

Students were also encouraged to take part in the cookbook's production. Junior Katie Webster of Decatur, Ga. designed the artwork on the cover of the cookbook. Katie, a double-major in studio art and Spanish, was selected through an art contest held by the cookbook committee.

Centre Cooks is available at the Centre Bookstore for $15 or by mail for $20. For more information call Amy Wilson at 859-238-5345 or email amy.wilson@centre.edu.
