DANVILLE, KY—U.S. Representative Ben Chandler will speak about current issues confronting Congress and the American people at Centre College on April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in room 101 of Young Hall on campus. "Centre College is pleased to welcome Congressman Ben Chandler back to our campus," said Clarence Wyatt, Pottinger Associate Professor of History and Special Assistant to the President. "Congressman Chandler has a wealth of experience in politics and public policy at the local, state, and national levels, and we look forward to hearing his perceptions on some important issues of the day. Also, the Congressman has designated an internship position in his Washington office for a Centre student, and we welcome the chance to thank him again for this great opportunity." Each semester at least one internship position with Chandler is reserved for a student from the College. Responsibilities of the internship position include conducting tours of the Capitol, responding to constituent concerns, researching legislative issues, writing letters and working with the congressman's staff on issues that affect the Commonwealth and the nation. Chandler was first elected in a special election in February 2004 to represent Kentucky’s Sixth District in the United States House of Representatives. He won a full two-year term in November 2004. Prior to his election to Congress, Chandler served two terms as Kentucky’s Attorney General. In 1995, he became the youngest Attorney General in the nation and was reelected in 1999 without opposition to a second term. Chandler graduated with distinction from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in history, and he holds a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Born on September 12, 1959, Chandler lives in Woodford County, Kentucky with his wife, Jennifer, and their three children.
