Sharing the Story: Centre Homecoming 2006RELEASED: Oct. 12, 2006
Homecoming activities begin on Friday, October 20 and continue through Saturday, October 21. Alumni are encouraged to stop by the Chenault House on Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. for the annual Alumni Reception. All are invited to journey back to the classroom with current Centre students and faculty for the Alumni College on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. An art exhibit featuring the work of Centre alumnus Emil Robinson '03 will include a gallery talk on Friday between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. and a reception between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the AEGON Gallery in the Jones Visual Arts Center. The exhibit will be open Friday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hometown favorite BILLYBLUES will perform a concert on Friday at 9:30 p.m. in the Charles T. Hazelrigg Gymnasium in Sutcliffe Hall. The annual Alumni Homecoming 5K race begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in front of Young Hall. The entry fee is $15 per runner. Entries will be accepted until 8 a.m. on the day of the race. All are invited to join David A. Anderson, Paul G. Blazer Associate Professor of Economics, and illustrator Paul Sirimongkhon as they sign copies of their new book, Sometimes I Get So Angry! Anger Management for Everyone on Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon at the Centre College Bookstore, located in the former Hub building on the corner of Third and Main Streets. The Distinguished and Young Alumnus Award recipients will be presented, along with the Athletic Hall of Fame inductees, on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Weisiger Theatre at the Norton Center for the Arts. Alumni are invited to a full buffet lunch inside Cowan Dining Commons on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tickets to the Alumni Luncheon are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years old and younger. All are asked to make reservations. The football team takes on Trinity University at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Homecoming king and queen will be presented during halftime. The field hockey team will be in action against Lindenwood at 11 a.m. Women's volleyball takes the court against Rhodes at 3:30 p.m. and Oglethorpe at 6 p.m. This year's Homecoming Gala will feature Natalie Cole on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in Newlin Hall. Cole has performed material from almost every genre, including contemporary pop, jazz and R&B classics. She comes to the Norton Center during a tour of her newest CD release.
