Centre employees, faculty, retirees honored at awards dinner

DANVILLE, KY—Centre College staff and faculty were in the spotlight at the College's annual awards dinner, held Wednesday, May 17 in the Cowan Dining Commons.

The Kirk Award for excellence in teaching, endowed by a 1995 gift from Mike and Joanne Kirk Duncan '71, has been awarded annually since1996. The winners for 2006 were Christine Barton, Mary Daniels and Daniel Stroup.

Mike Preston, Steve Curtsinger, and Delsie Frederick received the Horky Service Award. Created from a bequest from Lorette and John Horky '32, the Horky Award recognizes outstanding achievement by facilities services employees and has been given annually since 1990.

Recipients of the Recognition Award, which honors non-physical plant staff, were Bettie Poland, Gretchen Hines-Ward, Thomas Manuel and Sarah Scott Hall.

Seven retiring employees were also recognized:

  • Anna Brand–40 years
  • Ray Hammond–34 years
  • Brad Nystrom–33 years
  • Shirley Owsley–29 years
  • Bessie Mae Huston–20 years
  • John Ward–15 years
  • Maryanne Ward–15 years
