Enduring power of the U.S. Constitution addressed by panelRELEASED: Sept. 14, 2006
Each year, on or near the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, the Law Society sponsors an event designed to engage the Centre and Danville community in a conversation about the life and history of the U.S. Constitution. This year's theme focuses on the tension that exists between continuity and change. Panelists will examine how the Constitution has been able to withstand this tension due to its flexible nature. "Our three panelists will offer remarks on how the Constitution was formed to be an enduring, living plan of government, how it has been formally amended, and how the various arms of government have interpreted and re-interpreted our fundamental document of government," comments Dan Stroup, Centre College Professor of Government. The Centre College Law Society is composed of students interested in careers in the legal field. The organization meets regularly to discuss legal matters. The Society sponsors field trips to places such as courtrooms and law schools and brings experts in the legal profession as well as representatives from law schools on campus to speak with students.
