"Ocho" exhibit showcases senior artists

RELEASED: May 4, 2006

DANVILLE, KY—Centre College senior art majors will present an art exhibit entitled "Ocho" from May 12-21 at the AEGON Gallery in the Jones Visual Arts Center on the Centre campus. A public reception for the artists will be held on May 14 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit will also be open on May 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The eight exhibiting artists include: Lauren Arnold of Lexington, Ky.; Josh Eckert of Bradfordwoods, Penn.; J.B. Floyd of Bardstown, Ky.; Paige Guthrie of Campbellsburg, Ky.; Ashley Howell of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; Ann Rich of Wake Forest, N.C.; Michael Secor of Morehead, Ky.; and Jessica Stauble of Louisville. The exhibit will include paintings, ceramics, and art glass offering various interpretations of the human figure, in addition to objects inspired by forms found in nature.

The show is the culmination of the study of studio art at Centre. The Art Program offers instruction in both studio practice and art history, with major and minor concentrations available in both areas. Media taught include drawing, oil painting, printmaking, ceramics and hot glass.

"The senior show is the crowning achievement of four years of work and study for our art majors," says Sheldon Tapley, Stodghill Professor of Art at Centre. "It's their chance to put together all they've learned and make something creative and entirely their own; in that way it goes beyond the class work that characterizes much of school. It's a major step toward independence."
