Nayef Samhat named associate dean

DANVILLE, KY—Nayef Samhat, Frank B. & Virginia B. Hower Associate Professor of Government and International Studies, has been named associate dean of the College. His term will begin in 2007 and continue through 2010.
The associate dean assists the dean of the College in administering all matters concerning academic programs, including faculty and course evaluation, scheduling and calendar issues.
"Nayef comes to the office of associate dean with excellent experience," said Stephanie Fabritius, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College. "In addition, Nayef has distinguished himself as a teacher and a scholar."
Samhat's numerous assignments include division chair, program chair, member of the Curriculum and Academic Standards Committee, Committee on Tenure and Promotion, Committee on Planning and Priorities and Faculty Development Committee.
"I appreciate the opportunity to serve the College, my colleagues and to work with Dean Fabritius and the staff in the office of the academic dean," Samhat said.
Bill Johnston, Stodghill Professor of Mathematics, will continue the duties of associate dean through June 2007.
"I'm pleased that we continue to have the distinguished work of Bill in the role of associate dean through June," Fabritius said. "Bill has served tirelessly in this position since 2001 and has provided guidance to me as I've transitioned to the dean's office."
Samhat said he will also benefit from the current dean’s know-how.
"Dean Johnston has served the College with distinction over the past six years, and I look forward to working with him over the next several months," he says.
