DANVILLE, KY—Beating out many other first-rate entries, the winner for the “Photo of CentreTerm” contest is Abby Smith, a junior English and Spanish double major from Northbrook, Ill.

"We took the photo from the top of a volcano in Auckland, New Zealand called One Tree Hill," says Smith, who was in New Zealand with the "Physical Science of Volcanoes" CentreTerm class. "There were rocks in one of the craters so the guys decided to spell out the historic Centre score [referring to Centre's famous 1921 gridiron upset of No. 1 Harvard] with the rocks."

The photo was the Picture of the Week on Centre’s Web site Jan. 19.

Smith will receive a $50 cash prize and a bag of goodies from the Communications Office for her entry.

Smith's photo will remain in the running for the Photo of the Year honors and a digital camera.
