Glass forms exhibit opens on campus at AEGON Gallery

RELEASED: Feb. 8, 2007

DANVILLE, KY—The Centre College Art Program will host a glass forms exhibit titled "Can you come wash my back?" by artist Lauren Arnold '06. Arnold's works will be displayed in the AEGON Gallery in the Jones Visual Arts Center on campus. The exhibit will be open from Feb. 9 through March 8. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

An opening reception for the artist will be held Feb. 9 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.

"Lauren's works are three-dimensional snapshots of nature filtered through her quirky sub-conscious," says Stephen Rolfe Powell, Stodghill Professor of Art at Centre. "While filled with seductive imagery and luscious glass surfaces that lure the viewer in, Lauren's work, in the end, leaves the viewer grappling for specific meaning that may or may not be there. Only Lauren knows for sure!"

Arnold reflects on working with glass: "My first impressions of glass blowing were a mixture of terror and awe. I was frightened by the seemingly chaotic explosions around the studio. Despite my uneasiness, I was drawn to the globs of molten glass."

Arnold, a native of Lexington, Ky., graduated from Centre with a B.A. in studio art.  She is currently the Graduate Fellow for Centre's Art Program.
