Centre professors share life stories with students

RELEASED: March 29, 2007

DANVILLE, KY—From a professor who's been at Centre for over 30 years to two professors who've been here for just a few, the College will feature three faculty members in its annual "Life Stories" convocation on April 6 at 7 p.m. in Young Hall 101.

Sponsored by Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary Society, this event showcases Centre faculty and staff discussing various aspects of their childhoods, experiences in school and their favorite Centre moments.

"At many larger universities, professors are distant talking heads, but Centre prides itself on close student and professor relationships," says ODK member Brian Grieb '07 of Louisville. "This convocation gives us yet another chance to bring students and professors together outside the classroom."

Centre often has been recognized for the extraordinary relationships that develop between professors and students that last long after students graduate from Centre. The 2006 Yale Insider's Guide says, "The 'accessible' and 'really amazing' professors at Centre" are "known for the personal attention that they give to students." Because they get to know their students personally, professors help them stretch to achieve their very best. "Life Stories" gives select professors the opportunity to share their life lessons and experiences on a more personal level.

During the convocation, students learn about and get to know their professors as individuals, not just as teachers. This longstanding tradition allows the Centre community to celebrate and fortify the strong student-professor relationships that the College cultivates and is famous for.

This year's "Life Stories" will feature assistant professor of sociology Sarah Goodrum, Matton professor of psychology Brent White and associate professor of French Patrice Mothion.
