New-student orientation at CentreRELEASED: June 21, 2007
Incoming freshmen at Centre College are fortunate because the College holds a new-student orientation program that alleviates some of that transitional stress. This week, two sessions will be held: Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23. Prior to the beginning of fall term, more than 40 student orientation assistants (OAs) join faculty and staff to help incoming freshmen acclimate to Centre and to being away from home. Centre's OAs lead freshman discussion groups, assist with academic advising with the help of a faculty member, and plan ice-breaking activities. Most important, they know Centre inside and out and want to make new students feel comfortable. Not only is orientation a lot of fun, it also allows new Centre students to make a variety of friends. The academic programs give students an idea of what to expect from classes and lets them know what resources are available to them. There are also social activities that help students bond with others during this orientation. For more information, visit the new student orientation webpage!
