Eighty Centre student-athletes named to 2007 SCAC Academic Honor Roll

RELEASED: August 2, 2007

DANVILLE, KYEighty Centre College student-athletes from the winter and spring sports programs have been recognized for their efforts in the classroom by selection to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll for the 2007 spring term.

The 80 Centre student-athletes on the honor roll tie the second-highest total in school history, falling only three short of the 2005 spring term record total of 82 and matching the 2006 spring term total of 80. To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.

Because winter sports end during the spring term, both men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving teams are included in the spring honor roll. Three Centre sports teams placed at least 12 student-athletes on the honor roll, led by the women's swimming and diving team with 13. The men's and women's track and field teams placed 12 members each on the honor roll.

Softball had the next highest number on the honor roll with nine; men's basketball and men's swimming and diving had seven; baseball had five; women's tennis had four; women's basketball, women's golf and men's tennis each had three; and men's golf had two.

Of the 80 to make the honor roll, more than half, 44, qualified for at least the second time. Six of those have been named to the honor roll at least three times. Earning Academic All-SCAC status all four years were Eric Moore (baseball), Sara DeSanctis (women's tennis), Ines Kevric (women's track) and Eileen Schilling (women's track). Schilling was also a four-time honor roll selection in cross country.

Since the Honor Roll's inception in 1997, more than 11,200 male and female student-athletes have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom. A total of 1,078 Centre student-athletes have made the Honor Roll in its 11 years of existence.
