Dilapidated warehouse torn down to make way for new dining facility
RELEASED: December 13, 2007
DANVILLE, KY—The corner of Perryville and Harding streets in Danville has been undergoing a dramatic facelift this month to make way for a new, temporary campus dining facility while Cowan Dining Commons is replaced with a new campus center.
An empty warehouse on the site has been removed to make way for the new 20,000-square-foot building, scheduled for completion in June 2008. The new building will act as the primary campus dining facility during the estimated 12–18 months it will take for Cowan Dining Common to be razed and replaced with a combination student center and dining facility. After that, the building will function as a multi-purpose facility for large-scale student activities and other campus uses to be determined.
During CentreTerm, a campus-wide contest to name the new dining facility will get underway. Details for the contest will be announced at that time, but it's not too early to start making a list of favorite names to enter. The entire Centre campus community will have the opportunity to submit names, and whoever's name is chosen will win a fabulous array of exciting prizes!
The new construction is only part of a dramatic series of expansion and renovation projects on campus to take place over the next three years. In addition to the construction of Pearl Hall and the campus center, these include an expansion and renovation of the College's science facilities and a refurbishment of the Norton Center for the Arts.
