Men's soccer team raises funds for Susan G. Komen Foundation

RELEASED: November 1, 2007

DANVILLE, KYThis past Saturday, the men's soccer teams of Centre College and Austin College (Texas) joined together to donate $5,300 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, in part to honor Sue Hauck, the mother of Robbie Crump '08 of Louisville. Hauck passed away this fall from breast cancer.

Also during the Senior Night game, Crump scored the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Austin 3-2.

With the win, the Colonels snapped a three-match losing streak to improve to 13-4-1 overall and 6-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

The goal, which was Crump's first of the season, could not have come at a better time.

"The story of the night was Robbie Crump," says Jeb Burch, Centre men's soccer head coach. "He hit the game-winner early in OT to finish the match, and I have to believe that his mother was looking down with a smile. This is a truly amazing story, one I'll never forget in my lifetime."

The night was also successful for many outside the soccer community as the two teams raised $5,300 for the Komen Foundation. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network of survivors and activists working to end breast cancer forever.

Prior to the match, Centre honored its 11 seniors before their final home game and then joined Austin in presenting the check to the Komen Foundation.

The Colonels return to action Saturday, Nov. 3 to play DePauw University in their final regular season match of the year. The SCAC contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Greencastle, Ind.
