Convocation focuses on breaking down stereotypes

RELEASED: October 4, 2007

DANVILLE, KYSeveral Centre students will share their individual coming-out stories in the convocation "We'll Be Glad To Take Your Questions." The campus organization Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians and Allies for Dignity (B-GLAD) will host the panel discussion on Thursday, Oct. 4.

"The goal of this convo is to help students view sexual orientation diversity from individual perspectives and break down the stereotypes that exist," says co-president Joshua Stevens '09. "No two people have the same story, and it's harmful to all when a sweeping generalization is made based upon anecdotal evidence."

B-GLAD was founded at Centre in 1990. The organization provides a social network for individuals of different sexual orientations to come and share experiences and ideas.

The panel discussion will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Weisiger Theatre on campus.
