DANVILLE, KYCentre's Homecoming is always a special celebration for its alumni—a chance to relive college days, reminisce with old friends and visit the campus so many remember with such fondness. This year, Centre invites all its alumni home to share their experiences and also to celebrate the accomplishments of Centre alumnus, faculty member and world-renowned glass artist Stephen Rolfe Powell '74.

Homecoming activities begin on Friday, October 26 and continue through Saturday, October 27.

Centre, the City of Danville and the Presbyterian Church of Danville will hold the Thomas A. Spragens Memorial Dedication on Friday at 4 p.m. at the corner of Walnut and College streets. Even some alumni are unfamiliar with the story of John Todd Stuart, the Centre graduate who set Abraham Lincoln on the road to extraordinary success. In 1832, Lincoln had limited career prospects and his friend Stuart urged him to study for the bar exam. When Lincoln protested that he had nothing to study, Stuart loaned his good friend Lincoln a set of books, according to an autobiographical sketch Lincoln wrote in 1860.

In honor of Stuart's positive influence on the man many consider to be America's greatest president, a dedication ceremony for Stuart Hall will be held on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. Also during the ceremony, the Kentucky Historical Society will dedicate a historical highway marker honoring Stuart, which will be placed in front of Stuart Hall.
