Career Services launches Sophomore Survival Program

RELEASED: September 6, 2007

DANVILLE, KYSophomore year is a time for making some tough decisions: choosing a major, mulling over internship options and planning when and where to study abroad. This month, for the first time, the Career Services office is offering a comprehensive program to address the needs of current sophomores.

The program, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m., will cover a variety of topics important to sophomores. Three different sessions will focus on internships, career planning and resume writing, and leadership and time management.

Joy Asher, associate director of Career Services, explained that the topics for the three sessions were chosen based on a survey sent to all sophomores.

"We wanted to address the most pressing needs of current sophomores, and they overwhelmingly told us that they wanted direction in these areas," Asher said. "We hope that Sophomore Survival will provide them with good information to help guide them through the rest of their time here at Centre and beyond."

Deb Jones, director of Career Services, will conduct the resume writing and career planning session. Mindy Wilson, assistant director for employer relations and internships, will conduct the internship session. Sarah Hall, director of residence life and coordinator of health and counseling, will conduct the time management and study skills portion of the program.

Door prizes will be given away at every session, along with a grand prize at the end of the evening. Snacks, drinks and pizza will be provided. The sign-up deadline is Sept. 25.
