Class of 2012 is Centre’s largest

RELEASED: August 28, 2008

DANVILLE, KYCentre admitted 349 first-year students for the Class of 2012, a number that includes the largest number (44) and largest percentage (13) of minority and international students in the College’s 189-year history. These record-breaking numbers are due in large part to Centre’s ongoing efforts to increase diversity through programs such as Posse and to extend the College’s global reach through goals mapped out by the strategic plan.

Centre’s alliance with The Posse Foundation is now in its third year. The foundation prepares small groups of promising public high school students, known as “posses,” for enrollment at top-tier colleges nationwide. The partnership brings student leaders to Centre from the Boston metropolitan area, helping to develop a more diverse student body at the College. The Class of 2012 includes 11 Posse students who join 19 others who enrolled at Centre in 2006 and 2007.

Increasing the number of international students is also a key initiative of the College’s strategic plan goal to promote global citizenship. The plan was approved by the Board of Trustees earlier this year.

The acceptance rate for the Class of 2012 is 63 percent. The class represents 27 states, with 41 percent of students from out of state. Forty-nine percent of first-years are male, and 51 percent are female.

The average ACT score for the Class of 2012 is 27.7, and of those students with class ranks, 52 percent were in the top 10 percent of their graduating high school class.
