Centre faculty, staff, retirees honored at awards ceremony

DANVILLE, KYCentre College employees were in the spotlight at the College's annual faculty and staff appreciation dinner and awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 13, in the Cowan Dining Commons on campus.

The Kirk Award for excellence in teaching, endowed by a 1995 gift from Mike and Joanne Kirk Duncan '71, has been awarded annually since 1996. This year's recipients are Vince DiMartino, W. George Matton Professor of Music; Julie James, visiting assistant professor of language; Christine Shannon, Margaret V. Haggin Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science; and Amos Tubb, assistant professor of history.

The Horky Service Award went to Phillip Anderson, Yvonne Brand and Darryl King. Created from a bequest from Lorette and John Horky '32, the Horky Award recognizes outstanding achievement by facilities services employees and has been given annually since 1990.

Keith Dunn, associate professor of chemistry and chair of the Division of Science and Mathematics, and Megan O'Brien, director of campus activities, were awarded the Presidential Award of Excellence, which was created in 1999 to recognize exceptional leadership and accomplishment.

Recipients of the Recognition Award, which honors non-physical plant staff, were Anita Bertram, Amy Dedman, Carrie Frey and Luke Hatcher.

Seven retiring members of Centre's faculty and staff were also honored at the dinner: Don Brown, professor of psychology; Tom Brown, assistant football coach; Karin Ciholas, VanWinkle Professor of Languages; Peggy Kelley, human resources assistant and payroll clerk; Connie Klimke, reference librarian; Bob Martin, Ewing T. Boles Professor of Economics; and Allis McLaughlin, director of student health services.
