DramaCentre presents "Little Shop of Horrors"

RELEASED: March 27, 2008

DANVILLE—DramaCentre brings to the College's Norton Center for the Arts the raucous "Little Shop of Horrors," with four big shows April 2-5 at 8 p.m. each night. This stage production of the 1960's movie classic is packed with memorable characters and a score that audiences love.

"Little Shop" is the story of Seymour (played by Drew Davidson '11) as the clumsy employee of Mushnik's Flower Shop on skid row, where he daydreams of Audrey (played by Lauren Marx '08), his coworker.

After no business, Mr. Mushnik (associate professor of history Steven Beaudoin) decides to close the shop. Seymour and Audrey tell him that they think displaying something interesting, strange and new in the window will attract business. Seymour brings up the perfect plant for the job: a flytrap-esque plant he calls Audrey II (voiced by Will Johnston '03). The plant immediately attracts business.

Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore that offers Seymour fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination!

Directed by Patrick Kagan-Moore, Charles T. Hazelrigg Professor of Dramatic Arts, this affectionate spoof of 1950's sci-fi movies and one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time has become a fixture of American culture.
