DramaCentre stages Wilde romantic comedy

RELEASED: November 13, 2008

DANVILLE, KYDramaCentre and Centre College announce another exciting production for the 2008-2009 DramaCentre season. On Thursday through Saturday, November 13-16, DramaCentre will bring Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" to the stage of Weisiger Theatre of the College's Norton Center for the Arts. Performances begin at 8 p.m.

Wilde's play premiered on February 14, 1895 at the St. James's Theatre in London. Set in England during the late Victorian era, the play's humor derives in part from characters who maintain fictitious identities to escape unwelcome social obligations. It features witty dialogue and satirizes some of the foibles and hypocrisy of late Victorian society. It has proved Wilde's most enduringly popular play.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors,
groups and children under 12. Centre students, faculty and staff are admitted free. Tickets are available from the Norton Center for the Arts box office 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or call 877-HITSHOW for ticket information.
