The "Sweet 16" advance; only four will survive in naming madness

RELEASED: March 20, 2008

DANVILLE, KYThe "Sensational 64" came to the fray full of hope and ambition, but only 16 could capitalize on the excitement. Those 16 names now advance to Round Two in the "Name the New Eatery" contest as students are asked to pick the "Final Four" beginning Thursday, March 20 through midnight on Wednesday, March 26. Once the "Final Four" are selected, students will vote for the champion beginning Thursday, March 27. The polls will be open for two weeks, closing at midnight on Wednesday, April 9.

And now for a look at a few of the names that didn't make the cut:

Coming in at No. 20, "The Crossing" couldn't cross the finish line, nor could "The Roost" at No. 19. "The West End Diner" made a valiant effort, climbing near the top in the early days of voting, eventually falling to No. 18 at the last minute. And finally, with only two votes separating it from the "Sweet 16," "The Colonel Cantina" holds the bitter position of first out.

Those individuals who submitted names making it to Round Two will receive an array of Centre memorabilia, including an oversized "Centre Supreme" mug (as seen at The Hub Coffee House and Café), Centre pennant and window cling.

The name for the new eatery will be announced at the campus center groundbreaking ceremony on the Cowan Dining Commons lawn Friday, April 11, from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. The winner of the contest will be awarded a one-year subscription to unlimited Netflix DVD rental service with two DVDs at a time (along with seeing his or her entry emblazoned on the side of the new eatery in neon lights…or something similar but equally cool). Additionally, a permanent plaque will be installed in the building for future generations to view. Second, third and fourth place will receive smaller Netflix subscriptions.
