Men's soccer program teams up again with Susan G. Komen For the Cure

RELEASED: October 9, 2008

DANVILLE, KYIn 2007, two good friends and head soccer coaches at Centre College and Austin College, Jeb Burch and Mark Hudson respectively, agreed to a friendly wager. Which team could raise the most money for Susan G. Komen For the Cure? In 2007, the teams raised a combined $7,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.

In the 2007 Komen Game, Centre player Robbie Crump '08 of Louisville scored the game-winner and his lone collegiate goal, in sudden-death overtime, for the win over Austin. Crump's mother, Sue Hauck, passed away last year from breast cancer.

In 2008, both programs will again look to see who can win this friendly wager. The Komen Game II will be played on Friday, Oct. 17, in Sherman, Texas, between Centre and Austin. Donations should be received no later than Thursday, Oct. 16, and should be made payable to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and mailed to: Jeb Burch, 600 West Walnut Street, Danville, KY, 40422 or e-mail jeb.burch@centre.edu.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure: Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.

In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, nearly $1 billion has been invested to fulfill the promise, with the race becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
