College's No. 13 ranking inspires Lucky 13 Contest

RELEASED: October 30, 2008

DANVILLE, KYThe College continues to receive media coverage around the country relating to the recent ranking by Forbes magazine of Centre as No. 13 among all U.S. colleges and universities. And College administators continue to get reports that many alumni, parents and students think that being 13 is pretty neat.

So while this ranking is in a number of ways subjective (as are all college rankings), after hearing the latest campus riddle (“What’s 13?” See answer below*), the Communications Office decided to have some fun with the Forbes affair, via The Lucky 13 Contest.

The contest is open to current students, prospective students, faculty and staff; alumni, parents; and other friends of the College. To enter, send your take on the Forbes No.13 ranking as a riddle, a one-liner, a tight paragraph, a poem, a picture—beyond the limits of local, state and federal law, there are no restrictions. Use your imagination! E-mail entries to long@centre.edu or send via campus mail or snail mail.

Thirteen fabulous** prizes will be awarded to each winner. First prize will win an iPod Nano plus 12 other prizes. Second place wins an iPod Shuffle plus 12 other prizes. The third-place winner will take home a surprise gift plus 12 other prizes.

Remember, be creative, clever, catchy, and canorous (http://www.merriam-webster.com/). The winning entries—and others as well—will be featured in a Web story and in other venues. Make 13 your lucky number—send in your entry right away!

*“One better than M.I.T”
**Some prizes are more fabulous than others.
