DANVILLE, KYDefensive back Zack Sloan ’10 of Lebanon, Ind., became the third Colonel football player to be recognized by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) this year as he was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, Sept. 27.

Sloan notched five tackles, intercepted two passes, broke up one pass, and recovered a fumble in Centre’s 22-17 win at Austin College.

Linebacker Adam Hay ’09 of Cincinnati was named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week following week one, while quarterback Grant Conliffe ’10 of Louisville was named the conference Offensive Co-Player of the Week also for week one.

Goalkeeper Patty Cowley ’12 of Louisville was named the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week after helping Centre to a pair of victories in matches played Monday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 28.

Cowley recorded her fourth consecutive shutout against Transylvania University (1-0 OT) and made some key saves in the Colonels come-from-behind 3-2 overtime victory over DePauw University to win her seventh and eighth games of the season this past week.

Cowley is the fourth field hockey Colonel to earn conference player of the week honors. Emily Boyle ’09 of Louisville was the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Week in week two. Junior Sally Faulkner ’10 of Louisville was the league's Defensive Player of the Week in week four and senior Teresa Johnstone ’09 of Louisville was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week in both week two and week four.

Senior women's soccer player Erin Menard (LaGrange, Ky.) was named one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week for matches played Monday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 21.

Menard scored the first two goals, her third and fourth of the season, in the Colonels 3-1 conference-opening win over Oglethorpe. Two days later she scored the first goal again, this time in a 2-1 win over Sewanee-University of the South.

The senior now has five goals on the season and needs just four more to break into the SCAC's top five career scorers list.

Senior women's soccer player Nicole Wendschlag (Lexington, Ky.) was named a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in matches played from Monday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 14.

In its game against No. 6 Wittenberg University, Centre allowed only three shots on goal, and Wendschlag contributed significantly to this accomplishment.

The senior defender also contributed on the offensive side of the ball by scoring the tying goal in the 80th minute of play as the match would end deadlocked at 1-1 after two scoreless overtime periods.
