Women's soccer defeats Trinity and Southwestern to earn NCAA tourney bid

DANVILLE, KY—After sweeping Trinity University and Southwestern University over the weekend to improve to 12-5-1 overall, the Centre College women's soccer team has been selected to the field of 61 in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
Centre will square off against Denison University in an opening round match Saturday, Nov. 15 on the campus of Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. Denison finished 14-4-1 on the season and fell to the College of Wooster in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Centre and Denison met to open the 2008 season with the Big Red winning 2-1 in Granville, Ohio.
The Colonels finished second overall in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) with a 7-2 overall record, finishing one match ahead of both Southwestern and Trinity in the final conference standings.
Leading Centre offensively were seniors Erin Menard (LaGrange, Ky.) and Allison Terry (Lexington, Ky.). The two seniors are tied for sixth in the SCAC in points with 19 apiece. Both Menard and Terry are also tied for fifth overall in points per game (1.19), while Menard tied for the league lead in goals (10) and Terry tied for seventh (7). In addition, Terry led the SCAC in game-winning goals (4) and tied for sixth in assists (5).
Defensively, the Colonels allowed 1.05 goals per match. Junior Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) was fourth in the league in goals against avg. (0.99) in posting five shutouts on the season.
Centre has had four players earn SCAC Player of the Week honors in 2008. Senior Kate Anderson (Louisville) and Senior Nicole Wendschlag (Lexington, Ky.) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Menard, Terry each earned Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.
