Centre welcomes new staff members

RELEASED: July 31, 2008

DANVILLE, KYThe Centre College community is seeing some new—or returning—faces around campus. Introductions are in order:

Matt Nestheide '08 has joined Centre's athletic program as assistant men's basketball coach.

Nestheide experienced plenty of success as a student-athlete at Centre, garnering numerous honors. A four-time All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) selection, Nestheide was named the league's Player of the Year in 2007. Following his first season he was named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year and has been named to all-region teams as well as being named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll all four years.

"We're thrilled that Matt has decided to join our coaching staff.  Matt is one of the very best players in our school's history and he helped lead us to our back-to-back SCAC championships.  I now look forward to the impact Matt is going to have on our basketball program as a coach," Centre College head coach Greg Mason said.

Jessie Ferron '08 has accepted the position of Bonner Coordinator. The Bonner Program at Centre focuses on six common commitments. It provides students the chance to develop positive working relationships with community partners in Danville, Boyle County and beyond. The Bonner Coordinator works closely with Centre’s Bonner Director, striving to advance the mission of the program, helping students use their strengths to meet the community’s needs.

"Jessie’s keen abilities in critical thinking, her ability to connect with students and her ties to the local Danville community will serve the students in the Bonner Program and across campus very well," said Patrick Noltemeyer, Centre’s director of volunteer service and Bonner Program coordinator.

Sallie Bright has accepted the position of Dean's secretary. Before coming to Centre earlier this month, Bright was Outreach Coordinator for the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society. Though this was the only paid position she held with the DBCHS, she has been a volunteer, board member, newsletter editor and all-around helper there for more than 15 years, and is still involved in fostering animals and helping with temperament testing dogs.

Bright also was a copywriter/proofreader at DecoArt for five years, and she also spent nearly 13 years at the Advocate-Messenger as a writer, photographer and features editor. She is a native of Danville and still lives on and is involved in the farm where she was raised (which has been in her family for more 100 years).
