ATTENTION: Updated campus weather information
RELEASED: January 30, 2009 — 2:00 p.m.
IMPORTANT: Students who are off campus for CentreTerm break should NOT return to campus earlier than the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 3. (This will give Facilities Management extra time to deal with major clean up and other tasks created by the ice storm.) Centre community members who are able to volunteer their time and/or supplies, please try one of the following numbers and someone will direct you to where help is needed the most in the community: 324-2048; 324-2049; 324-2050; 324-2051. All main buildings on Centre’s campus have electricity and heat. Centre buildings on St. Mildred’s and Fifth Street still do not have power. It is unknown at this time when power will be restored to these areas. If the power has not been restored to these buildings upon your return to campus, please stay with a friend until further notice. If you cannot find someone with whom to stay, contact Student Life (238-5471) or Public Safety (236-4357). The water service is continuing to improve to full capacity. The City of Danville is asking that we continue to conserve water as much as possible. We still are under a boil water advisory which means that water can be used for bathing, toilet flushing and teeth brushing. Water is not safe to drink unless boiled and will not be until further notice. Meals for Centre students will be served in Chowan Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-noon and 5 p.m.- 6 p.m. The basketball games for Friday and Saturday nights will take place as scheduled and admission is free! The Centre Associates Dinner and the College Board of Trustees meeting will take place in Louisville as planned.
The DPS help number (236-4357) is operational for emergencies. Cell phone service remains sporadic at best. Use caution if you must go out. Danville city officials report that primary roads in city limits are safe to travel and 80 percent of county roads are safe, though some areas remain slippery. Falling tree limbs and falling ice remain extremely hazardous. Exercise caution when travelling and avoid walking near trees. Tune in to local radio station 105.1 FM for the latest weather and emergency related information. Also check out the Advocate-Messenger Web site for the latest stories and pictures from around the community. This will be the last update until Monday unless the situation drastically changes. - end - Founded in 1819, Centre College is ranked among the U.S. News top 50 national liberal arts colleges.
