Women in Politics: A Bipartisan Discussion

Thursday, Feb. 19, 7:30 p.m., Young Hall 101

Free and open to the public

Centre alumna, democratic state auditor, and Centre Board of Trustee member Crit Luallen, republican state representative Alicia Webb-Eddington, and Centre College professor Dr. Lori Hartmann-Mahmud will be discussing the issues facing women in politics, as well as the important role that they play in government.

Red Priest

Thursday, Feb. 19, 8 p.m., Weisiger Theatre

"If the Rolling Stones played recorder, violin, cello and harpsichord…they would be Red Priest." This quote from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette provides some insight into this early music group that has also been compared to the Marx Brothers, Jackson Pollock, Spike Jones and the Cirque du Soleil.

Understanding the Invader

Monday, Feb. 23, 7:30 p.m., Weisiger Theatre

Free and open to the public

As part of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, Kyrai Antares will share her personal struggle with eating disorders and share her theory about how disordered eating begins and progresses.

Kodo

Thursday, Feb. 26, 8 p.m., Newlin Hall

"Kodo" means "heartbeat," humanity's most fundamental source of rhythm and the first sound a child hears in its mother's womb. Growing from the ancient Japanese art of drumming, or "taiko," these incredibly athletic performers build on the centuries-old tradition to create a rhythmic language that speaks to a modern generation. A genuine world treasure, Kodo's One Earth Tour has taken the company to over three dozen countries for more than 3,000 concerts in locations ranging from war-torn Croatia to New York City's Carnegie Hall.

Handel's L'Allegro Lecture and Concert

Saturday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m., (lecture in Weisiger, concert in Newlin)

Note: Students will receive 1 credit each for the lecture and the concert.

On the 250th of George Frederic Handel's birth, Centre has the honor of hosting the American Handel Festival. Dr. Ruth Smith, a leading Handel scholar, will deliver the pre-concert lecture. The concert, directed by Steve Pederson, will feature the Handel Festival Orchestra, violinist of Tempesta di Mare, nationally known soloists, and the Centre Singers.
