From music to micro-finance, array of convos coming up in March

"Kodo" means "heartbeat," humanity's most fundamental source of rhythm and the first sound a child hears in its mother's womb. These incredibly athletic performers build on a centuries-old tradition to create a rhythmic language that speaks to a modern generation. A genuine world treasure, Kodo's One Earth Tour has taken the company to over three dozen countries for more than 3,000 concerts in locations ranging from war-torn Croatia to New York City's Carnegie Hall. Handel's L'Allegro Lecture and Concert There is a charge for the concert portion for the public. Click here to buy tickets. The lecture is free and open to the public. Note: Students will receive 1 credit each for the lecture and the concert. On the 250th of George Frederic Handel's birth, Centre has the honor of hosting the American Handel Festival. Dr. Ruth Smith, a leading Handel scholar, will deliver the pre-concert lecture. The concert, directed by Steve Pederson, will feature the Handel Festival Orchestra, violinist of Tempesta di Mare, nationally known soloists, and the Centre Singers. Rebecca Kousky: A Social Entrepreneur Building Her NEST Kousky started NEST, a nonprofit organization that provides interest-free loans, business training and mentoring to female artists across the developing world. She will talk about her own story and how micro-finance, entrepreneurship and women are changing the world.

The oldest philharmonic in America will present a program of nineteenth century masterworks, under the direction of Maestro Lorin Maazel. St. Petersburg Male Choir There is a charge for this event for the public. Click here to buy tickets. Featuring 25 superb male voices, this choir's repertoire ranges from 19th-century liturgical works to Russian folk songs. This is their first American tour. Orion String Quartet There is a charge for this event for the public. Click here to buy tickets. For 20 years, this string quartet has drawn consistent praise from audiences and critics for their fresh perspective and individuality. They offer diverse programs that juxtapose classic works with masterworks by living composers.
