DANVILLE, KY—Sophomore Chris Morris (Maysville, Ky.) and first-year student Emily Bachert (Bowling Green, Ky.) have qualified as individuals to compete in 2009 NCAA Division III Golf Men's and Women's Golf Championships (respectively). The Championship will be hosted by Methodist University May 13-16 and take place at the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Morris was the number three pick based on his top South Region ranking of number one, his adjusted scoring average, and his number eight overall ranking in Division III. Prior to Morris, the last time a male golfer from Centre College qualified to the NCAA Championship was in 1990.

Bachert was picked as the number one overall individual based on her number two national ranking of head-to-head in Division III. Bachert is the first female golfer to qualify for the NCAA Golf Championships since the inception of the women's program at Centre in 1992.

“This is a great day for the Centre Golf Program with the selection of Chris and Emily to the NCAA Championships," said head coach Brian Chafin. He continued, "Last year Chris proved he was a contender and followed up with a great sophomore year. Emily broke on to the scene in great style by winning two out of her first three tournaments and then opened everyone's eyes by leading the prestigious Jekyll Island Intercollegiate Tournament after the first two days before settling for second place. I am very proud of both of them, but also their teammates who both supported and pushed them to do well. I also need to give credit to Bruce Brown and Tom Campbell who were instrumental in the success of both fine individuals.”
