Centre again recognized as best value

DANVILLE, KY—Centre College appears on the recently published list of "20 Colleges Worth the Price" by the news Web site The Daily Beast. Click here to see the entire list. (Note: The tuition price listed in the write-up is from two years ago; the current-year comprehensive fee is $37,000.)

Centre continues to appear as a best value on virtually all national lists and rankings.

Consumers Digest lists Centre College as the No. 1 value in the nation among private liberal arts colleges. Others in the top 10 include Grinnell, Davidson and Colorado College. Institutions among the top 20 include Bucknell, Williams and Amherst. The rankings are based on the value of the education received compared to the annual cost of tuition and room and board.

The No. 1 ranking reflects Centre's long-standing commitment to personal education, which students achieve through one-on-one relationships with top-notch professors (98 percent of Centre faculty hold the Ph.D. or other final degree). It also reflects the quality of the College's entering students and its high graduation rate.

Centre College also once again was named to "Kiplinger's Personal Finance" magazine's list of best value colleges. Centre is ranked 29th among all U.S. private liberal arts colleges in the February 2009 issue of the publication, improving one position from a 30th ranking last year.

Kiplinger's rankings were divided into two lists—top-50 best values in private universities and top-50 best values in private liberal arts colleges. Centre was the only Kentucky institution to be ranked in either list.

National Survey of Student Engagement: In four of five engagement categories (or "benchmarks"), Centre students' scores were higher than the average of the "high-performing institutions," defined as schools with benchmark ratings in the top 10 percent of all NSSE institutions in the United States. Centre was ranked highest in the engagement category of Enriching Educational Experience, which means Centre students find rewarding learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
