Second Centre Symposium scheduled for April
RELEASED: February 19, 2009
DANVILLE, KY— "RICE: It's Brain Food" is the slogan for Centre's second annual research, internships and creative endeavors symposium. The campus wide event will be held April 16-19, expanding from the one-day format of its inaugural year.
All over campus, students will present aspects of their academic work in paper presentations, poster presentations, exhibitions and performances. Faculty-student collaborations, co-authored works, independent research, creative writing, internships and visual and performing arts are just a few examples of the types of academic works eligible for submission, and presenters are often supported by faculty mentors. The entire community is invited to attend students' presentations.
Sarah Goodrum, assistant professor of sociology and co-collaborator on development of the symposium, is excited for students to share their work with the community that is normally seen only by professors or classmates who are involved in the research or creative process.
"The presentation experience is excellent preparation for graduate school and a nice opportunity for professional development," Goodrum says.
Participants must submit a 150-word abstract describing their work. The deadline for submission of materials is March 12, only three weeks away. Students interested in learning more about the symposium or presenting can visit the Centre Symposium Web page by clicking here. Information regarding submission, FAQs and an abstract entry form can be found there. Click here for PDF program.
