New "video visit" allows students to experience Centre without leaving home
RELEASED: December 31, 2009
DANVILLE, KY—While there is no substitute for visiting Centre College in person, not every prospective student has the immediate opportunity to do so. With this reality in mind, the Centre admission office creates "video visits," DVDs filled with information about the College. From interviews with students and professors to shots of campus to photos from study abroad trips around the world, the DVDs allow students to discover what makes the Centre experience so remarkable. On the newest DVD, viewers are privy to stories about professor/student research projects (which are extremely common at Centre), the joys of living on campus (where 98 percent of students reside for all four years), the thrilling adventures of study abroad (in which about 85 percent of Centre students take part), the beautiful campus and much more. "We encourage students who live far from campus to use the video visits because they give a true sense of the campus and life at Centre," admission counselor Ali Hamilton '08 says. Of course, for students who are able to visit campus, the admission office strongly encourages them to do so. The video can also be a "first experience" of campus, to be followed by an in-person visit. During one of the many upcoming on-campus events, prospective students can sit in on classes, meet professors and other members of the Centre community, stay overnight in a residence hall, eat lunch in the new Campus Center, interview with admission counselors, cheer on a sports team and tour the campus. Prospective students are also welcome to schedule private campus visits, which are specially tailored to their interests.
