| May 8, 2008 Coolest Room on campus is a hole in one! After two weeks of voting, the results are in: Roommates Derek Tingle '08 and Rus Whalen '08 easily handled the competition. Tingle and Whalen's room in the newly named Stuart Hall scored 46 percent of the vote, while first-year students Emily Arbegust and Cassie Sharp earned runner-up honors with 21 percent. Full story. Internship Plus makes work experience with highly regarded NYC fashion label possible. As part of the Centre Commitment, students who meet academic and social expectations are guaranteed opportunities for an internship. In addition, the College offers extra financial support to students who participate in high-quality experiential learning during the summer or the distinctive CentreTerm—a 22-day intensive term in January in which creative topics, independent research, off-campus programs and internships are the rule, not the exception. The 2007-2008 Centre College John C. Young Scholars presented the results of their year-long research projects at a public symposium on Saturday, May 3. Full story. Senior excited about graduate study in entomology. When Philip Crain '08 was five years old, all he wanted to do when he grew up was swim with great white sharks. "I watched the movie 'Jaws' and was captivated," Crain says. "From that day forward, I decided I would be a marine biologist." When it came time for the native of Horse Cave, Ky., native to apply to colleges, Crain was fascinated by Centre College's focus on personal education after looking at schools across the country. "I heard about how prestigious Centre is, and I learned I could design my own major, so I thought Centre was a good choice," he says. Full story.
