The Vice Presidential debate between Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) and former Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney, held at Centre College on Oct. 5, 2002, was a huge success, according to news stories filed by print and broadcast entitites throughout the United States. Debate week at the college culminated months of hard work by staff and volunteers. A little luck with the weather provided the final touch.

Headlines Coast to Coast

The debate at Centre drew favorable coverage in media ranging from CNN to the Christian Science Monitor. Many reporters echoed the tone of David Von Drehle at the Washington Post who concluded an Oct. 6 political piece with langauge that bordered on the poetic: "The whole day was a happy pageant of Norman Rockwell meets Alexis de Tocqueville."
