*How did Prof. Wyatt choose his candidates? "To keep the ballot interesting, I wanted the list to be short, manageable, and provocative. Speculation and surprise, after all, are an inherent part of the political process. Anyone who dares speculate about candidates can choose to either make an incredibly long list or can keep it simple by offering a snapshot of the moment. I favored the snapshot approach."

Wyatt is an expert on recent American history and the author of an acclaimed book about press coverage of the Vietnam War, Paper Soldiers (University of Chicago Press, 1995). He is a native of Kentucky and has taught at Centre since 1990.
