Vice Presidential Debate at Centre College
Permit Application for Speakers Park
To apply for a permit to utilize Speakers Park:
- Print this form.
- Fill in the information blanks.
- Read the Terms and Conditions of Site Utilization and have the authorized representative of your group sign the last page indicating that your organization understands and accepts the terms.
- Fax the entire document to the Centre College Department of Public Safety at 859-238-5911. The college will return it by fax or mail with an indication of whether the permit has been granted.
The deadline for permit applications is 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1. Organizations interested in a time slot on the platform are strongly encouraged to apply early because space and time will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Time slots to use the platform are limited, as is overall space in Speakers Park.

(The platform schedule will be created on a first-come, first-served basis based on date and time that applications are received. The completed schedule will be released by the College October 2 and updated thereafter as needed. The college intends to make the schedule available on-line, barring any technical difficulties.)
PERMIT CONDITIONS
1. General. The permittee shall exercise the privilege of utilizing Speakers Park subject to the supervision and direction of Centre College Public Safety officers, College officials, and law enforcement officers. Permittee shall comply with all applicable laws and with the rules and regulations of Centre College. Centre College is a private college and the use of its grounds and facilities and the purposes of such use are solely at the discretion of the College.
2. Transportation. Parking on or near the Centre campus will be extremely limited during the time of the Debate. Participants in Speakers Park activities should plan to park away from campus and walk to the site or should contact Centre College Public Safety about shuttle services to the campus from remote parking areas. This information will also be available on the College web site several days before the event.
3. Signs. For the safety of all Speakers Park participants, any signs or placards to be used in Speakers Park must be made of paper and are not to be attached to anything to elevate the sign, such as a pole or stick, and may not be mounted in wood, metal, or any other type frame. Signs are to be held or carried and may not be affixed to any structure on the College grounds.
4. Sound equipment. Since Centre College will be providing a platform and sound amplification equipment, individuals and groups will not be permitted to use their own sound amplification equipment.
5. Restricted items. Participants may not bring into Speakers Park any weapons, alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, glass bottles, cans, or coolers, backpacks, fannypacks, or other similar closed containers or carriers. All closed containers are subject to search.
6. Intoxicated persons. Persons appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, legal or illegal, will not be permitted entry to College property.
7. Peaceful conduct. Participants shall not interfere with the free movement of vehicles or pedestrians and shall not block any road, gate, entrance, or exit. Participants shall not engage in violent behavior or incite others to violence, and shall not damage or incite others to damage any property of the College or other persons.
8. Assignment. This permit may not be assigned or transferred to any other party without the written consent of the Centre College Department of Public Safety.
9. Revocation. This permit may be revoked upon any breach of any of the conditions herein or at the direction of a College official. The termination of this permit will constitute revocation of the consent of Centre College to remain on College property and will serve as notice of such revocation. Failure to leave College property after being so notified will constitute a violation of Kentucky law and violators will be subject to arrest.
10. False information. If any information provided by Permittee is determined to be false, the provision of such false information will be considered a breach of the conditions for issuance of the permit and will be a ground for revocation.
11. Indemnification. In consideration for obtaining the privileges granted herein, the Permittee agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Centre College, its volunteers, employees, officers, and trustees (collectively, the indemnified parties), from any loss, including but not limited to damage to real and personal property, personal and bodily injury, judgments, settlements, attorneys fees, costs, and any other loss for which the indemnified parties may be liable as a result of the Permittees exercise of the privileges granted herein.
12. No release. The issuance of this permit does not constitute a release by the College of any right, title, or interest in the land or other property covered by this permit.
13. Directions. The Permittee agrees to follow the directions of College Public Safety officers, College officials, and law enforcement officers.
Location
Speakers Park is located on the south edge of the Centre College campus, behind the baseball field and to the west of the football stadium. Entrance to Speakers Park will be from Russell Street, an east-west street running south of campus and which can be accessed from Beatty Avenue on the west and Fourth Street on the East. All activities covered by this Permit are to take place in Speakers Park.
Time
Speakers Park will be accessible to permittees from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. on October 5, 2000.
Signature
This application must be signed by a person authorized by the group to enter into contracts and other binding agreements on behalf of the group. By signing this application, that person acknowledges having read and agreed to all the conditions listed above. Signing of this application also serves as an acknowledgement that Centre College is a private entity that may control activity on its property to a greater degree than could a public entity.
