A sod story
Taking advantage of some beautiful autumn weather, members of the calculus class taught by John Wilson, Stodghill Professor of Mathematics, get some practical experience with numerical integration by measuring the patch of sod between Carnegie and Sutcliffe Halls. The members of the class divided up into teams of two or three students each. Dr. Wilson assigned a different eight-foot section of the grassy patch to each team. The goal for each team was to use a variety of methods from the class to approximate the area of their section of sod.
