BIOGRAPHY
Lubitza Hershberger holds a DMA in viola performance from the University of Kentucky. Her thesis, “Engaging the Eclectic Bulgarian Soul in Viola Concerto No. 1 by Marin Goleminov (1908-2000): An Interdisciplinary Analysis with New Etudes,” was accepted in 2020.
PERFORMANCE
Among other ensembles and artists, Hershberger has performed with the Vidin Symphony, The Sofia Chamber Orchestra, the Alabama Symphony, Tuscaloosa Symphony, the Mobile Symphony, Meridian Symphony, Huntsville Symphony, and the Lexington Philharmonic. She studied with Dr. Wendy Yates, Maggie Snyder, Ognian Stanchev, Margie Karp, and Benjamin Karp. As a section player of the UK orchestra with John Nardolillo as music director, Lubitza worked with soloists such as Lynn Harrell, Arlo Guthrie, Gill Shaham, Sarah Chang, Thomas Pasatieri, Itzhak Perlman, Marvin Hamlisch, Mark O’Connor, Dr. Catherine Nardolillo, Denyce Graves, Time for Three, Wynonna Judd, Norah Jones, Lynn Harrell, Rachel Sterrenberg, and Reginald Smith Jr. She has toured variously, including with the UK Symphony orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and in two seasons at Carnegie Hall. In master classes with Helen Callus, Sheila Brown, Timothy Lees, Roberto Diaz, Deborah Lander, Michael Fernandez, Harvey de Souza, Robert Smissen, Stephanie Griffin, and Emilie-Ann Gendron, Hershberger has performed variously. She has additionally enjoyed involvements with Grand Night for Singing in Lexington - working with Tedrin Lindsay and directors Baldwin and Seebacher.
AWARDS
An award winner in both the Provadia and McCaulley competitions as well as an avid mentor to many different kinds of students, Hershberger is as committed to her art as she is to its pedagogy.
