Student in a dentistry internship

Pre-Dentistry

The Pre-Dentistry Program at Centre prepares you for dental school through faculty advising, course selection, and real-world dental experience.

Overview

Centre College’s Pre-Dentistry Program is designed to provide you with all the foundational coursework, advising, and experiential opportunities you need to successfully pursue a dental degree. You’ll prepare a competitive application with the assistance of your faculty advisors, who help you choose appropriate courses, find internships, and get accepted. Faculty advising and peer support through the Pre-Dental Society work together to support your journey. You’ll connect with peers, hear from guest speakers, and explore dental career paths.

Curriculum

While there is no specific coursework for the Pre-Dentistry Program, you should expect to take courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and other disciplines. Pre-Dentistry students have the freedom to major in various programs like Biology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, foreign language, and even Fine Arts.

Experiential Learning

Students engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflection to develop skills and increase knowledge retention.

As a Pre-Dentistry student you can explore opportunities to conduct summer research at Centre or other institutions. Students also often gain shadowing experiences with dentists in the area.

Internships

We're committed to helping students find quality internship experiences in the career area of their choice.

As a student in the Pre-Dentistry Program, you will have the opportunity to earn academic credit while pursuing shadowing and internships with dentists in the area or where you live during the summer. Centre’s commitment to global engagement also means you can explore international shadowing options like the program in Merida, Mexico.

Careers

Our extraordinary liberal arts and sciences education prepares students for meaningful lives and careers.

Students who complete the Pre-Dentistry Program often go on to dental schools in their home state. We also have excellent relationships and high success rates with the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, the University of Tennessee, and others. After earning their dental degrees, Centre graduates have pursued careers in general dentistry, oral-facial surgery, orthodontics, and periodontics.
