Allison Hancock ’14 off to the races with Keeneland internship

With school out for summer, many Centre students have found interesting and educational summer internships—and for Allison Hancock ’14, one particular internship opportunity had her chomping at the bit.
Hancock is spending the summer as the marketing and special events intern at Keeneland in Lexington.
“In this position, I work with all aspects of marketing, as well as the other departments such as creative services and communications,” Hancock says. “So far, it has been a great experience because I have been able to get my feet wet in many areas.”
Through her internship, Hancock has been able to work on projects that are important to her.
“My specific project this summer though involves the newly implemented Kids Club,” she says. “It is so great to be able to see the younger generation get involved with horse racing.”
Hancock is no stranger to Keeneland and the world of horseracing: her father Seth was recently inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame for his success running Claiborne Farms in Paris, Ky.
“I was interested in this internship for my love of both Keeneland and marketing/special events. Keeneland has always held a special place in my heart, as I have grown up around the horse industry and Lexington as well,” Hancock says. “It is one of the most beautiful places in Kentucky, and I am honored to be a part of it for the summer.”
Since Keeneland is such a popular attraction in central Kentucky, Hancock has already been busy this summer—and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“My favorite part of working at Keeneland so far is the fast-paced atmosphere. There are constant projects and planning, so I know I will always be busy,” she says. “When I go into work in the morning, I have no idea what I’m about to face—and that has provided me with so many new experiences and skills.”
Hancock acknowledges that a grant from Centre Internship Plus (CIP) has been a huge help.
“This internship has been guided by my grant through Centre Internship Plus, which has allowed me to pursue this amazing opportunity,” she says.
With the rest of the summer ahead of her, Hancock is looking forward to whatever comes next with her internship at Keeneland.
“I am absolutely in love with the organization and the people I work with, so I would say it’s a perfect fit,” she says. “It’s a great feeling to be working at a place you’re so passionate about.”
