Centre College Trustee Jess Correll was recently honored with induction into the Kentucky Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.
Correll is the founder and chairman of the board for First Southern Bancorp, Inc., based in Stanford, Kentucky, which is the parent company of First Southern National Bank.
An entrepreneur at heart and regarded as a creative, visionary leader, Correll has a passion for giving, which led to the establishment of The River Foundation, a private foundation devoted to empowering the weak and the poor, both locally and throughout the world. He also serves as the president and chairman of the board for this organization.
Correll additionally serves as chairman and chief executive officer of UTG, Inc., an insurance company in Stanford.
Beyond his involvement as a trustee on Centre’s board, Correll is a member of Friends of the Good Samaritans and the National Christian Charitable Foundation. He is also a deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church.
A seventh generation Kentuckian who lives on a farm in Central Kentucky, Correll practices sustainable farming in partnership with his son. He is the co-owner of the Bluebird Cafe, a farm-to-table restaurant in Stanford, and he and his wife have won several awards for historic preservation efforts in the town.
Correll is a native of Somerset, Kentucky, and a graduate of Asbury University. He is married to Angela Crouch Correll, and they have three children and five grandchildren.
