This summer, economics and finance major Cedric Burnam ’19 (Bowling Green, Kentucky) is interning at Ephraim McDowell Health in Danville, Kentucky.
Throughout the internship, Burnam is assisting Josh Greeman, the director of practice management.
“Our everyday task is to make sure that the clinics within Ephraim McDowell Health are running efficiently,” Burnam said. “We do this through running reports on providers, or on some occasions, going to the facility and checking with patients and staff members.”
Burnam explained how he has always been interested in healthcare, and after graduation, he wants to pursue a dual degree in healthcare management and business administration.
He credits his courses at Centre for providing insight and application during the internship in several situations.
“A couple of examples are statistics and econometrics, which prepared me to run regressions with very large data sets and even a scenic design class that I took as an elective,” he added. “My very first day at my internship, I was able to use some of the things I learned from that class.”
By the end of this experience, Burnam hopes to gain more knowledge about the healthcare industry. He says the greatest thing about the internship is that he is faced with a new task every day.
“I am extremely thankful to be blessed with this opportunity,” he concluded. “Many students are unable to experience internships such as these until after graduation. Without the help of so many wonderful people at Centre College, I would not have had this opportunity.”
